It is a simple dessert made by old people with what was in season, most of all in Winter, had to offer a caloric and energy intake between meals or on the occasion of major feast.

INGREDIENTS FOR 8 PEOPLE (1 cake)
500 gr. stale bread, half a liter milk, 2 eggs, 5 or 6 amaretti biscuits, 1 apple, 1 pear, 20gr pine nuts or walnuts, 100 gr. ca. dried fruit (raisins, apricots, plums, dates), 1 shot of amaretto, 50 gr. butter, 100 gr. white flour, 50 gr. unsweetened cocoa, 100 gr. sugar.

PREPARATION
Soak chopped bread in milk for a couple of hours, then knead it adding eggs, dried fruit (previously soaked in warm water), pine nuts or walnuts, chopped apple and pear, sugar, amaretti, the liquor and cocoa. Mix well and pour in a well buttered and floured low cake tin. Bake in oven at 200° C for 15/20 minutes then at 150° C for another 15/20 minutes. Check its cooked before removing from the oven; if the cake is still wet leave it in the oven for a few minutes.
